چکیده

Genetic improvement programs of perennial forage legumes in Brazil evaluate accessions in row plots without considering the genetic variability within accessions. Individual plant evaluations would not only allow for selection of the best accessions but also for the best individuals within accessions. This procedure is however more labor-intensive and expensive. The effectiveness of using the simulated individual BLUP selection method (BLUPIS) was assessed in a trial with Stylosanthes capitata and S. guianensis in a completely randomized block design with 35 accessions, six plants per plot and six and five replications, respectively. The method can be applied when only total plot yields are measured and provide selection at the individual plant level. Results showed a high correlation between selection by the traditional BLUP and the alternative BLUPIS methods. The latter is recommended for improving species in which individual plant evaluations are difficult.

Genetic parameters and prediction of genotypic values for root quality traits in cassava using REML/BLUP.

The aim of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters and predict the genotypic values of root quality traits in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP). A total of 471 cassava accessions were evaluated over two years of cultivation. The evaluated traits included amylose content (AML), root dry matter (DMC),...

Evaluation the Mean Performance and Stability of Rice Genotypes by Combining Features of AMMI and BLUP Techniques and Selection Based on Multiple Traits

Additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) are two methods for analyzing multi-environment trials (MET). In this study, seven selected rice lines were evaluated along with two check varieties based on randomized complete block design in Tonekabon, Amol and Sari (Iran) in three growing seasons of 2011-14. To quantify the genotypic stabil...

Polymorphism analysis in identification of genetic variation and relationships among Stylosanthes species

A total of 148 accessions representing six important species of the genus Stylosanthes, including S. guianensis, S. hamata, S. scabra, S. seabrana, S. macrocephala, and S. capitata, were used to evaluate genetic variation and relationships using sequence-related amplified polymorphism markers. The results showed that the 18 selected primer pairs generated 138 distinct fragments. The fragment si...

Transferability of STS markers in studying genetic relationships of marvel grass (Dichanthium annulatum).

Transferability of sequence-tagged-sites (STS) markers was assessed for genetic relationships study among accessions of marvel grass (Dichanthium annulatum Forsk.). In total, 17 STS primers of Stylosanthes origin were tested for their reactivity with thirty accessions of Dichanthium annulatum. Of these, 14 (82.4%) reacted and a total 106 (84 polymorphic) bands were scored. The number of bands g...

Strategies in identifying individuals in a segregant population of common bean and implications of genotype x environment interaction in the success of selection.

The objective of this study was to compare the BLUP selection method with different selection strategies in F(2:4) and assess the efficiency of this method on the early choice of the best common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) lines. Fifty-one F(2:4) progenies were produced from a cross between the CVIII8511 x RP-26 lines. A randomized block design was used with 20 replications and one-plant fi...
